Meharry - Heritage Fellow

Taneisha Gillyard Cheairs Ph.D.  is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, and former Presidential Fellow under Dr. James E.K. Hildreth.

She graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Louisiana State University – Shreveport in 2013 and her Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences with a Certificate in Health Policy from Meharry Medical College in 2019. Her graduate research focused on the genetics of obesity and her overall interests lie in community health from a holistic lens, with a specific passion for maternal and whole-family wellness and advancing health equity.

As a Meharry – Heritage Fellow, Taneisha aspires to gain foundational knowledge in the principles of healthcare finance to achieve her goal of developing a community health/birth center and to mentor other minority-owned healthcare companies on their path to growth.
